Apparently, [Poll #1462643]
(Non HP fans: Sorry for spamming your flists, but I wanted to make the poll public.)

Twitter has verified it's hers.

According to Mugglenet & TLC she did it just because there were fake JK Rowlings on Twitter & she wanted to shut them down. Nobody expects her to actually use it.

I doubt she will, but you never know. But I'm sure she's being honest when she says it's mostly to get the fake JKRs to stop impersonating.

My question is... who has time to pretend to be a celebrity anyway? :P

You don't spend much time on Twitter? :D

There are too many of them, the poseurs. It's just bizarre, I think, but that whole "I have more followers than you" race is compelling. To some people. Even if the followers are actually following who they're pretending to be.

You need a box for, "Maybe this will help her writing."

Call me a Luddite, but I really hate twitter.

I wouldn't say I hate it, but while I have an account, I don't really use it much. I do think that twitter - and Facebook, honestly - are good for some reasons, but I feel like people become really, really reliant on those two things. The mass panic when twitter went down for five hours a few months back says a lot - what, those people couldn't just pick up a phone, drive somewhere, or heck, even send an actual email? It's not like all technology stopped working and aliens abducted 87% of the human life on this planet. One thing didn't work for a few hours. It sucked. I'd understand if twitter was down for a week, a day even, but really? Five hours?

Still, I do think it has its bonuses. I just wish it weren't relied on.

OK, I guess "hate" is too strong a word. ;) I agree with everything you said and would like to add that I've looked at people's twitter pages and the reason I haven't joined the cult is because it seems to be full of: "It's cold today", "Mmm, coffee", "My dog is sleeping" messages and constantly receiving notifications that inane would drive me mad. So I guess I'm a cranky Luddite. :)

Not Owl-ter...Whooter! Owls don't 'tweet', they 'hoot'!

I don't either. Count me in with the Luddites, I guess. I don't see the need to keep the world updated with my minute by minute breaths. A while back a few of my flist were updating with 'twitters', which made absolutely no sense to anyone else except the person they were responding to. I automatically skipped that entry. I'm glad that trend seems to have stopped.

I can't make sense out of them. The interesting ones read like half a conversation. One sentence that could be worth reading if it was part of something bigger. And yes we all love coffee and get stuck in traffic.

i love twitter. i updated it several times a day in the States, and i update it about twice a day in France. but i like to think my tweets are interesting, especially since i've had a few followers who aren't close friends tell me how much they love reading them.

for example (taken from the last two weeks):

-Aussie bar tonight in Paris!!!!
-French boy1 e-mailed me!!!!
-fb-chatting with both American boy AND guitar boy. great life.
-slept half the day instead of drinking myself into a stuper. praying the kids will behave this afternoon.

so yeah, some people update boring stuff, but most of my friends update with interesting things, like about job interviews or meeting people or song lyrics or their evening plans. so i love twitter.
