What do you guys think Pottermore is?
ETA (Before I even posted this, fail, heh): There's a website here that might be it (HPANA explains. Sort of.) But I hope it's not just a website...

Date: 2011-06-15 11:05 pm (UTC)A friend of mine suggested it was a virtual book of sorts - or rather, has information that the book would have. Or it's a combination, with hints at a or point-blank promotes future book but for now just tidbits on the site.
I suppose it could be a MMPORG, but somehow that doesn't sound like something JKR would come up with. I guess you never know, though.

Date: 2011-06-15 11:21 pm (UTC)I really hope it's not a game. Or a HP social networking site (which is another theory I've seen). I think that ship has sailed. Short stories online would be good ...

Date: 2011-06-16 01:27 am (UTC)As I said on tumblr, the only way this could be equally exciting as a new book would be if Jo announced that the Wizarding World is actually real and that all of our Hogwarts owls are just slightly late.

Date: 2011-06-16 10:35 am (UTC)That's the thing. And honestly, HP stuff has disappointed me before - look at the 800 word prequel. I thought it was going to be this really cool insight into the series when really it was a random moment. A fun random moment to read about, but random all the same. And I've always gotten myself excited about interviews, only that they're often disappointing - even fan interviews. I think there's exactly three interviews JK Rowling ever did (including the one with Memerson after HBP) that I felt was worth taking the time to read.
I definitely think people will be disappointed no matter what. I do hope this doesn't turn out to be something small, but it very well could. Or it'll be something that doesn't interest me. There's rumors it's some social networking thing, which to me sounds pointless because fandom's already kinda done that on its own.

Date: 2011-06-18 04:43 am (UTC)(Oprah's interview was particularly rank. It consisted pretty much entirely of "is it true you came up with the idea on a train" questions; I think she was just trying to plug her channel to one of the bigger groups of people that doesn't usually watch her show but might be swayed to do so.)

Date: 2011-06-17 12:08 am (UTC)An interactive school yearbook of the Marauder's era, with little biographies and tidbits on every character. Or the current era.
The long-hidden away first draft of book seven, which was going to feature a compelling and dramatically different plot, before a leak/a copyright lawsuit/a fan's speculation that hit too close to the mark forced her to rewrite from scratch, forever regretting the first draft hidden from the sunlight forever.
A recipe for butterbeer to make at home.
A list of the 10 fanfictions that JKR has read and deemed worthy to receive her honors; not quite on the level of canon, but she will approve of them nonetheless.
... The article I read on the subject was leaning heavily towards ebooks. That's where my money is. If I was going to put any money on this.
